The central idea of the poem is that the Guest is God because the poet refers the snake as his guest and doesn't harm it and as service and let the snake continue his drinking. But soon the other voice in his head reminded him of how a snake can be dangerous to man.

Though the snake was highly poisonous,he didn't show any malice. He let it move away. in the ordinary case,man will kill it all on a sudden. He is an exception.though he had fear,he had no ambition to eliminate it.He throws only gently to move it away.
