mrs. van daan was a short tempered and argumentative lady she had the habit of finding faults with others she used to have frequent verbal duels with her husband she was to the invasion to take place but is worst affected by it she keeps moaning about petty things like the weather Mr kugler Bing given a piece of the spice cake and irritates other she is critical about Anee's up bringing she is jealous of Anne as Peter confided in anne and not her she was upset when Mr dussel didn't respond to her flirtations
she had her own fears of getting shot being thrown into prison.
