◾ It is rich in lime potassium, magnesium etc.

◾ The amount of nitrogen and organic matter is low.

◾ It is formed by weathered lava rocks and black in colour.

◾ It's water retain capacity is high.

In India, this type of soil mainly found in the Malabar cost. Maharashtra, Gujrat, certain regions of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Meghalaya and West Bengal are the states having black soil.
