The following are some of the characteristics of Chordates :

1. They have a nerve cord which is hollow type. This nerve cord is located ventrally in the chordates.

2. The pharynx found in the organisms belonging to chordates have gill slits.

3. The organisms of the chordates possesses notochord.

4. The post anal tail is also found in the chordates.

5. Examples : Human beings, Frog, Pigeon, Dolphin, etc.

Some characteristics of Non chordates are listed below :

1. In non-chordates, the nerve cord is solid type and is located dorsally.

2. Gill slits are not found in them.

3. They do not have notochord.

4. Post anal tail is also not present in them.

5. Examples : Liver Fluke, Euspongia, etc.
