• The renewable energy source which is produced by the breakdown of organic matter by certain bacteria under anaerobic conditions is known as bio-gas.

• It is produced by agricultural waste, food waste, animal dung, manure, and sewage.

Composition :  

Bio gas mainly comprises of methane, hydrogen, and carbon dioxide.  

The percentage of their constituents is as follows :

• Methane (CH₄) : 50 - 75%

• Carbon dioxide (CO₂) : 25-50%

• Nitrogen (N) : 20-10%

• Hydrogen (H₂) : 0-1%

• Hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) : 0-3%

• Oxygen (O₂) : 0-0.5%
