→ Galvanometer weather instrument used for detection and measurement of small electric currents.

→ When a current carrying coil is placed in a uniform magnetic field , it experiences torque.

Given by,
→ Torque (t) = nIBA Cos (alpha)

→ It consists of coil PORS, having large
number of turns of copper wire. The coil is wound over non-magnetic metallic frame which may be rectangular or spherical in shape. The coil is suspended from torsion head 'H' by means of phosphor-bronze
strip between the pole pieces of strong magnet.

» The lower end of the coil is connected to one end of hair spring 'S1.

» The other end of t his hair spring is
cnnected to terminal T2. 'M' is the plane mirror attached with the phosphor-bronze strip to note the reading by lamp and scale method.

» The whole arrangement is enclosed in a non-metallic box. The box is provided with levelling screws fixed at the base.
