On the other hand, —CH3 group in o-cresol produces +I-effect which decreases the polarity due to increase in electron density on —OH bond. So, o-cresol is a weaker acid than phenol. Thus, the correct order is o-cresol < phenol < o-nitrophtenol. Tnxx for the asking..and don't forgot to upvotes.

The correct order of acidic strength of o m and p methyl phenols

Explanation:

The methyl phenol is called as cresol .

We have ortho , meta and para cresol .

The order of acidic strength is :

m-cresol m  > p cresol > o-cresol

m-cresol is acidic and can be explained on the basis of hyper conjugation .

The methyl group leads to increase in electron density on oxygen atom. The ion that is formed as a result of loosing proton is not that stable in case of ortho and para forms .

Due to this meta is more acidic .
