The glands secreting hormones were termed as endocrine glands or ductless glands, since they have no tube or duct to carry away their products and pass straight into the blood stream, then to the target site. Endocrine glands are namely:

1. Pituitary

Secrets Somatotropin, Thyrotropin, Gonadotropin, Adreno cortico trophic hormone, Luteinising hormone, Follicle stimulating hormone, Vasopressin.

Function:

1. Growth of bones,

2. Activity of thyroid gland,

3. Activity of ovary and testis,

4. Stimulates secretion from adrenal Cortex,

5. In male - Secretion of testosterone and spermatogenesis,

6. In female - Ovulation, development of corpus luteum and secretion of progesterone, growth of graafian follicles, estrogen secretion, milk production,

7. Regulate absorption of water from kidney tubules.

Secretes Estrogen progesterone

Functions:
