All types of soil may be composed of four basic components.
They are minerals, water, air and organic components.
A soil is made up of 45% minerals, 5% organic matter, 25% water and 25% air.
However, the four soil components may vary tremendously in different soil types.
Air and water is present in pore spaces between solid particles of soil.
Also, the air-filled pore space ratio and the water-filled pore space ration can vary depending on the throughflow, flooding, precipitation and groundwater discharge.
