• Cyanophyceae are the algal bacteria with photosynthetic capabilities.
• They are also known as blue-green algae (BGA) due to its blue color.
• They have thick gelatinous cell wall with motile hormogonia.
• Some cyanobacteria have nitrogen-fixing abilities.
• All cyanobacteria are autotrophic.
• They don't have flagella, hence are immotile.
• For example, nostoc, oscillatoria, spiriulina, microcystis, anabaena, etc.
