Chipko Movement-

This movement was originated from an incident in a small village known as 'Reni' in Garhwal, in 1970s. A logging contractor's workers appeared to cut the trees while the men folk were absent. Then the womens of the village reached and stuck to trunks of tree so that it could not fell further.

Thus thwarted, the contractorbhad withdraw.

This is a example of people's participation in saving forest and managmnt.
