Consumer Protection Act is the full form of COPRA.

The consumer movement arose out of dissatisfaction of the consumers as many unfair practices were being indulged in by the sellers mainly due to lack of legal system.

    2. In 1985 United Nations adopted the UN Guidelines for Consumer Protection. This gave way to other nations also to adopt measures to protect consumers. The consumer groups pressurised their governments to follow the UN guidelines.
Working of the consumer protection rights:

Consumer forums have been set up at multiple places which are equivalent to the court system in our country.

The aggrieved person(s) can go to these courts against the malpractice of shopkeepers or companies.

The aggrieved person can contact these courts with / without a lawyer.

Benefits of consumer’s rights:
1. Consumers now have the right to be informed about the particulars of goods and services that they purchase.
3.  If a shopkeeper sells a good at more than the printed price (MRP) on the packet, then the consumer can  go to the consumer forum.
