Quit India Movement was one of the famous movement under the leadership of Gandhi in order to make India independent. Also known as August Movement,it was initiated in a meeting of Indian National Congress on 8 August 1942. In this movement , Gandhi made speech where he said the world famous quote " do or die ". The Quit India Movement was during the WW2.

Most of the leaders of the Congress were imprisoned within hours after Gandhi made his speech. Many riots took place and the imprisoned nationalists were kept in jail till 1945.

As there were only some few small scale riots, the movement was considered as a failure. But through this movement the British understood that the Indians would not stay under them any longer.
