The micropyle helps to absorb water at the time of germination of the seed. It is through this micropyle that the root emerges at the time of germination of the seed. The opening of the micropyle allows the pollen to enter the ovule for fertilization.
The primary root, or radicle, is the first organ to appear when a seed germinates. It grows downward into the soil, anchoring the seedling. In gymnosperms and dicotyledons (angiosperms with two seed leaves), the radicle becomes a taproot.
