Answer:

(a)The main function of mucus is to protect and lubricate surfaces. For instance, in the gut, it lubricates the passage of food. It also protects the epithelial cells, such as those lining the skin, respiratory, gastrointestinal, urogenital, and other bodily systems. ... One of the major components of mucus is mucins.

(b)Hydrochloric acid is an essential acid in the stomach. It helps destroy bacteria, as well as other harmful species. It also works as a preservative of food. HCl converts pepsinogen which is not active into pepsin to metabolize proteins in our stomach.                                                                                                                      (c)Since bile increases the absorption of fats, it is an important part of the absorption of the fat-soluble substances, such as the vitamins A, D, E, and K. Besides its digestive function, bile serves also as the route of excretion for bilirubin, a byproduct of red blood cells recycled by the liver.                                 (d)The pancreatic juice contains enzymes that complete the digestion of starch called pancreatic amylase. It also contains pancreatic enzymes that complete the digestion of protein called trypsin, chymotrypsin and carboxypeptidase.
