Graphical representation of temperature and time on a mixture of ice and water in a beaker.
- The ice and water mixture which is initially placed in the beaker will be in thermal equilibrium and there will be no flow of thermal energy between them.
- On heating the beaker, the ice first melts and changes into water. During the time there will be no big change in the temperature since the heat energy supplied is utilized to heat the ice.
- After sometime when the ice completely melts, the heat energy causes water molecules to displace ( as a result of Kinetic energy) and the water gets heated.
- This is shown as a slope in the graph and on reaching 100 degree-Celcius the water starts to boil.
