Since it is alkane , therefore the general formula for alkanes is CnH2n+2

As given in the questions number of carbons is 3 , therefore n is equal to 3 .

And the compound becomes C3H8

And after following I.U.P.A.C nomenclature rules it is named as PROPANE

where 'Prop' = three and 'Ane' is used for alkanes
