Answer:

According to kinetic theory of gases , the average kinetic energy of gases is directly proportional to absolute temperature of the molecules .

Explanation:

We know that , Pressure exerted by gas is given by ,

P = \frac{1}{3} pC³ = \frac{1}{3} PV = \frac{1}{3} MC²     (i)

According to ideal gas equation ,

PV = nRT          ( ii )

From equation (i) and (ii)

PV = RT

Mass of gas M = mN     ( where N = Avogadro number )

\frac{1}{3}mNC² = RT →  \frac{1}{3}mC² = \frac{R}{N}T

Where R/N = K ( Boltzmann constant )

∴ 1/3mc² = KT

Multiplying both side by 3/2 ,

1/2mC² = 3/2KT

∴ 1/2mC² is directly proportional to T

Hence , mean kinetic energy per molecule is directly proportional to absolute temperature of gas .

Degrees of Freedom : It is an independent physical parameter and refers to the number of ways a molecule in gaseous state may move or vibrate in space .
