The Vijayanagara kingdom was established at the instance of Guru Vidyaranya by Harihara and Bukka in 1336 having their capital at Vijaynagar. They belonged to the Sangama dynasty. Bukka ,the brother of Harihara sat on the throne of Vijayanagara after him in 1336 and was in power till 1337.

By 1346 the entire Hoysala kingdom was under the rule of the Vijayanagara kingdom.

The four dynasties which reigned  Vijayanagar were Sangama Dynasty, Saluva Dynasty, Tuluva Dynasty and Aravidu Dynasty.

Sangama Dynasty

It was the first dynasty to have ruled the Vijaynagar empire . The founders of the Viyanagar empire Harihar I and Bukka belonged to the above dynasty.

Saluva Dynasty

The Saluva dynasty came into existence after the Sangama dynasty. It was in power from 1485 to 1505 AD and were mainly concentrated in the entire South India.

Tuluva Dynasty

The Taluva Dynasty followed after the above dynasty. The most famous king of the Vijaynagar dynasty was Krishna Deva Raya. The dynasty ruled from 1491 AD to 1570 AD.

Aravidu Dynasty

The Aravidu dynasty was the last Hindu dynasty and fourth  dynasty of Vijaynagar empire which ruled the South India.
