The main role of placenta in pregnancy is to provide your baby with enough nutrition. Usually it is found to weigh around one-sixth of your newborn’s weight.


It does not have any nerve cells. Nor it is under the direct control of the spinal cord or your brain.Every minute during the pregnancy, almost about 550 milliliters of blood gets pumped into the uterus to exchange enough nutrients with the placenta for your baby.
The vagina receives the penis during sexual intercourse and also serves as a conduit for menstrual flow from the uterus. During childbirth, the baby passes through the vagina(birth canal). The hymen is a thin membrane of tissue that surrounds and narrows thevaginal opening.

It helps in getting oxygen from the maternal blood into the foetus and CO2 from foetus blood into the maternal blood.

Nitrogenous waste products produced in the embryo diffuse through the placenta into the maternal blood stream.

*Immunity
Antibodies developed in the mother against certain diseases like measles, small pox, diphtheria pass from mother into the foetal blood through the placenta.

Vagina:

*To serve as the passageway for the elimination of menstrual fluids.

*To receive the penis during sexual intercourse and hold sperm prior to its passage into the uterus.

*To serve as the birth canal for the fetus during childbirth and delivery.
