3. Gaining an advantage over someone by doing something before they do .==========================================================
4. To bear the burnt of means to suffer the main part of a thing.======================================================
5. To understand that what is happening in changing circumstances and to be able to tell the future.____________________________________________________________

run away quickly from a dangerous situation.

To sticks one's gun :

to refuse to change one's convictions or beliefs

To steal a march on :

Taking an advantage over one person by acting before they do

To bear the brunt on : 

Take the brunt of something unpleasant means to suffer the main force or part of it

To know which way the wind blows :

If a person tries to discover which way the wind blows, they try to discover the information about a situation ; especially a person's opinion before they take the action.
