Types of Computer Viruses:-

The computer gets infected through the replication of malicious code. Computer viruses come in different forms to infect the system in different ways. Find some of the most common type of computer viruses here,

  • Boot Sector Virus
  • Direct Action Virus
  • Resident Virus
  • Multipartite Virus
  • Polymorphic Virus
  • Overwrite Virus

Boot Sector Virus :–

This type of virus infects the master boot record and it is challenging and a complex task to remove this virus and often requires the system to be formatted. Mostly it spreads through removable media.

Direct Action Virus :–

This is also called non-resident virus, it gets installed or stays hidden in the computer memory. It stays attached to the specific type of files that it infect. It does not affect the user experience and system’s performance.

Resident Virus: –

Unlike direct action viruses, resident viruses get installed on the computer. It is difficult to identify the virus and it is even difficult to remove a resident virus.

Multipartite Virus :–

This type of virus spreads through multiple ways. It infects both the boot sector and executables files at the same time.

Polymorphic Virus: –

These type of viruses are difficult to identify with a traditional anti-virus program. This is because the polymorphic viruses alters its signature pattern whenever it replicates.

Overwrite Virus :–

This type of virus deletes all the files that it infects. The only possible mechanism to remove is to delete the infected files and the end-user has to lose all the contents in it. Identifying the overwrite virus is difficult as it spreads through emails.

Answer:

1. File Virus - A file-infecting virus is a type of malware that infects executable files with the intent to cause permanent damage or make them unusable. A file-infecting virus overwrites code or inserts infected code into an executable file.

Examples include Jerusalem and Cascade.

2. Macro Virus - A macro virus is a computer virus written in the same macro language used for software programs, including Microsoft Excel or word processors such as Microsoft Word. When a macro virus infects a software application, it causes a sequence of actions to begin automatically when the application is opened.

An example of a macro virus is the Melissa virus which appeared in March 1999.

3. Master Boot Record and Boot Sector Virus - A boot sector virus is a type of virus that infects the boot sector of floppy disks or the Master Boot Record (MBR) of hard disks (some infect the boot sector of the hard disk instead of the MBR). ... While boot sector viruses infect at a BIOS level, they use DOS commands to spread to other floppy disks.

Examples of boot- sector viruses are Michelangelo and Stoned.

4. Multipartite Virus -A multipartite virus is a computer virus that's able to attack both the boot sector and executable files of an infected computer. If you're familiar with cyber threats, you probably know that most computer viruses either attack the boot sector or executable files.

The first virus that infected COM files and boot sectors, Ghostball, was discovered by Fridrik Skulason in October 1989. Another early example of a multipartite virus was Tequila.

5.  Polymorphic Virus - A polymorphic (or metamorphic) species of virus named “Stanfurd” encounters a vulnerable host system – the environment. Unlike the vast majority of computer viruses, Stanfurd differentially self-mutates in order to avoid early detection by anti-virus software – the predator.

URSNIF, AIRLOCK, VOBFUS, and BAGLE or UPolyX are some of the most notorious polymorphic viruses in existence.

6. Stealth Virus -

A stealth virus is a type of virus malware that contains sophisticated means of avoiding detection by antivirus software. After it manages to get into the now-infected machine a stealth virus hides by continually renaming and moving around the disc.

An example of a stealth infection is Brain, the very first DOS virus.

PLEASE MARK ME AS BRAINLIEST.
