Reasons behind the winning of the incumbent government:-

• Post Pulwama terror attack there was a huge sentiment generated on patriotism. The ruling party's call to dedicate their vote to the sacrifices of soldiers, made many vote for BJP.
• The note Bandi , GST all regards as economic reforms made BJP register a victory.
• The ruling government's swach Bharat inspired many.
• BJP once again played the Hindutva card garnering all Hindu votes in Hindi Heartland and also winning all except two in Karnataka and also making significant inroads into Telangana and West Bengal which are citadels of strong regional parties.
• However the Hindutva card did not work in the deep south were the ruling party failed to win a seat in Kerala, Tamilnadu , Andhra Pradesh. Here secular parties like DMK+ won all but 1 seat in TN and UDF won all seats in KL and strong regional front YSRC won in AP.
