\Large\bold\star\underline{\underline\textbf{Transformer\:}}

→ Transformer is a device used for conversion of low alternating voltage into high alternating voltage and vice versa.

\Large\bold\star\underline{\underline\textbf{Principle\:}}

→ It is based on the principle of mutual induction. That is, when magnetic flux linked with one circuit changes, induced current is produced in neighbouring coil.

\Large\bold\star\underline{\underline\textbf{Construction\:}}

→ Note : Check the necessary picture also that is provided with this answer.

→ Transformer consists of two coils wound on a common iron core. Voltage is applied across the primary coil (P). The output is obtained across the secondary coil (S).

→ As voltage (vp) is connected to primary coil, alternating current starts flowing through the coil.

→ As a result, changing magnetic flux gets linked with the coils.

→ Due to change in magnetic flux, an induced e.m.f. is produced in the secondary coil.

The main principle of operation of a transformer is mutual inductance between two circuits which is linked by a common magnetic flux. A basic transformer consists of two coils that are electrically separate and inductive, but are magnetically linked through a path of reluctance.
