It is commonly known as Calcium oxi chloride .
And has formulae CaOCl2 .

Bleaching powder is formed by the action of chlorine on dry slaked lime.
Its chemical formula is CaOCl2
Uses - i) It is used in textile industry for bleaching cotton and lenin
ii) It is used in paper factories for bleaching wood pulp.
iii) It is used for bleaching clothes in laundry
iv) It is an oxidising agent in many chemical industries.
v) It is also used for disinfecting drinking water.
