Give the reaction for ethanol reacting with alkaline potassium permanganate.does it give h20 too??

Hey friend !!

Here is your answer..

The reaction is :

C2H5OH + KMnO4 ==> CH3CHO + MnO2 + KOH + H2O

When we add potassium permanganate to etahnol , it gives hydrogen too.

Vaibhav19111: but alkaline potassium permanganate is a strong oxidizing agent so don't you think the product should be ch3cooh?
