Yes there is very interesting fact behind using dolly in core cutter, firstly dolly has a significant area around its circumference for proper transfering of energy by impact of rammer on it.
But this facility can also be provided with core cutter but it does not?
It is why because if only core cutter is provided without any dolly then upper portion of soil in core cutter would be compacted because of direct impact of rammer on it and we cannot achieve proper insitu density.
