• The monsoon season in India usually lasts from around June to September.
• But some places in India get rain earlier than the beginning of the monsoon or rainy season in India.
• This early arrival of monsoon in some places in India is due to how monsoon winds work.
• The western disturbances cause rainfall in the northern hilly parts of the country.
• While in the case of the southern states like Kerala and Karnataka along with Maharashtra is the picking up of moisture from the Arabian Sea by the monsoon winds and then being brought over land.
• Thus, the working of monsoon winds and the picking up of moisture from the Arabian Sea is the primary reason for the early arrival of monsoons in some places of India in April and May.
