The three states of matter exist due to the difference in the inter-molecular force of attraction between the molecules of the substance.
When the inter-molecular force of attraction is stronger and molecules are close-bound, then the matter exists as solid.
When the inter-molecular force of attraction is strong but the molecules are less rigidly bound then the matter exists as liquid.
Lastly, when the inter-molecular force of attraction is weak and the molecules are very weakly bound then the matter exists as gaseous.

Answer:
The three states of matter exist due to the difference in the inter-molecular force of attraction between the molecules of the substance. Also inter particle space plays also important role in existence of these one, interparticle space is inversely proportional to the interparticle forces
