Each Hydrogen atom has 1 electron. To gain stability , it has to gain another electron . When 2 hydrogen atoms come together , they form a covalent bond with each other , both of them getting 2 valence electrons in total and attaining stability through Duplet configuration.

it's because k shell have capacity to take 2 electron only and hydrogen need 1 electron to make it stable and when to hydrogen come together they form covalent bond with eachother.
