The wasteland in India covers almost 64 million hectare of land which is more than 20% of India’s geographical land. Wasteland is any area which is unproductive and is left neglected.

EXPLANATION:

Rajasthan in India has the largest concentration of wasteland- almost 45% followed by the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Manipur, Meghalaya and Nagaland.

Human activities like deforestation, over-grazing, over cultivation and unskilled irrigation are the major causes of the large area of wasteland in India.
