The salient features of Bryophyta are:

They grow in moist and shady places in the hilly areas.

They lack true roots, stems and leaves.

The plant body is thallus-like, prostate or erect.

The main plant body is haploid.

E.g., Funaria, Sphagnum.

The defining features of bryophytes are:

1) Their life cycles are dominated by the gametophyte stage.

2)Their sporophytes are unbranched.

3)They do not have a true vascular tissue containing lignin (although some have specialized tissues for the transport of water)

I hope it's helpful
