The salient features of Bohr's Atomic Model are as follows-

  1. Electrons revolve around the nucleus in stable orbits without radiating any energy. These orbits are called as Shells.
  2. These shells are designated as K,L,M,N.
  3. When an electron jumps from lower energy level to higher energy level, it absorbs energy.
  4. When an electron jumps from higher to lower level, it radiates energy.
  5. This energy is equal to the difference in the energy levels of the two orbits.

LIMITATIONS OF BOHR'S MODEL

  1. It is unable to explain the Stark Effect wherein the spectral lines get split on presence of an electric field.
  2. it is a violation of Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, according to which we cannot know the position and momentum of an object at the same time.
