The story "Mrs Packletide's tiger" is a humourous of vanity, jealousy, and greed. The writer presents satarical picture of English society. The three main character of story; Mrs Packletide, Lousia Mebbin and Loona Bimberton are criticized by the author. Their behavior is quite shallow and self centered. Their lives are guided by petty and shallow thoughts. They are preoccupied with wealth, power and fame. Miss Mebbin on the other hand represents the working middle class that aspires to become rich and willing to go to any length to aquire her wealth. She blackmails Mrs Packletide into buying her a weekend cottage and have no regrets about it.
