Answer:

1) To manufacture glass, soap, borax and caustic soda.

2) It is used in water softening in laundry and cleaning.

3)It is used as water softener –  Hard water which consists of magnesium and calcium ions are precipitated by carbonate.

The Uses of Sodium Carbonate are :

  • For the manufacture of other sodium compound like sodium silicates, sodium hydroxide, borax, hypo etc.

  • As a household cleansing agent.

  • In paper and soap/detergent industries.

  • A mixture of NaCO3 and KCO3 is used as fusion mixture.

  • In textile industry and petroleum refining.

  • It is used in the manufacturing of glass.
