Give three examples of objects in equilibrium found in classroom and draw an approximate scale diagram for the object.

The three examples are:

  1. Table at rest: A table is at rest because it is in equilibrium. The weight of the table is equal and opposite to the normal force applied by the floor on the table.
  2. Books on a table: Books kept on a table experience an upward normal force by the table and the table experience the weight of the book (=mg).
  3. See-saw: If two children of the same weight sit on a see-saw, the swing remains in equilibrium as shown in the figure.
