Answer:
The alkyl halides are at best only slightly soluble in water. For a halogenoalkane to dissolve in water you have to break attractions between the halogenoalkane molecules (van der Waals dispersion and dipole-dipole interactions) and break the hydrogen bonds between water molecules.

from socl2
R-OH + SOCL2 ___________> R-CL + SO2+ HCL
from pcl3
R-OH + PCL3 -----------------> R-X + H3PO3
FROM PCL5
R-OH + PCL5 ------------------------> R-X + POCL3 +HCL
ALKYL HALIDE ARE INSOLUBLE IN WATER BECAUSE
1.ALKYL HALIDE ARE POLAR IN NATURE. AND DOES NOT FORM HYDROGEN BOND .
THEY ARE SOLUBLE IN ETHER BECAUSE "LIKE DISSOLVE IN LIKE " THAT IS THEY BOTH ARE POLAR
