Slinky is a long spring which is fixed at one end while its other end is free. The waves produced by moving the slinky left and right horizontally, are longitudinal waves. Longitudinal waves are the waves in which particles simply oscillate back and forth about their position of rest. They move forming compressions and rarefactions.
