Answer:

• The superlative degree must be used when more than two things or group of things are compared.

•It is followed by by of and preceded by the ; as,

"This is the tallest of all spires."

• Before a noun qualified by other , or before the pronoun others, the comparative (not the superlative degree is used) must be used; as,

"Iron is more useful than any other metal."

•The use of Double Comparatives or Double superlative is meaningless, as in sentence like

"Solomon was the most wisest person on earth"

Rules;

#1. Most adjectives of one syllabus and some of two form the comparative by adding -er and the superlative by adding -est to the positive.

small smaller smallest

#2. when positive ends in e, only 'r' or 'st' are added.

brave braver bravest

#3. when the positive ends with 'y' and is preceded by a constant, 'y' is changed into I before adding -er and -est.

heavy heavier heaviest

Examples of superlative degree:

1.Nalini is the most intelligent girl in the class.

2. Iron is the most useful of all metals.

3. Haridwar is the holiest of all cities of India.
