Mitochondria is the energy generating organelle of the cell, also called the powerhouse of the cell; whereas plastids are of mainly two types, and their functions are storage and pigmentation, and in photosynthesis. Also mitochondria is of only one type (as much as I know). And mitochondria is found in both animal and plant cells whereas plastids are found only in plant cells.
