So, some similarities we should aim for are flow and story telling. Flow isn’t that hard but we get so focused on the facts we forget a human being has to read this and under stand it. Flow can help with this, ensure you are building up the facts in a straight line and not assuming that the reader knows things that took you weeks or months to get your head around.

The second is where the magic can happen, story telling. Pure facts can lose certain aspects of the swamp of information and disinformation that you waded though to get here. Now there is a balance, facts should still be 80 or 90% of the paper but a sprinkle of spice can make the world of difference. Not a fist full of spice, just a sprinkle. This gives the reader some gems to keep looking for as they read the piece. For an academic, this can really boost for marks a bit or get the readership a little higher.

I guess at the end of the day, take a page from the marketing hand book, know your audience. It may not completely change the pieces direction or make you change up your writing style completely, but it may help you put on to paper what they are more lightly to enjoy and there by, absorb. At that point, mission complete, well done.

\
