The title of the poem itself is humous as melon is crowned to be the king of the city. The word 'just' and 'lacid' is used to describe the king. This becomes quite ironical and humor. The king of the city is considered of having a good and just sense of giving his judgment but at the time he falls in his own woven trap. One of the most humous parts of the poem comes when the king asks to bring the arch to the scaffold. Hence it can be concluded that a lemon can be the best substitute for such idiotic and senseless king.

There are several instances of irony in the poem, 'The Tale of Melon City'.

In the first instance the king issues a Royal Decree stating that the one who caused his crown to fall off should be hanged. The king is hanged by the decree he issued.

In the second instance, the people decide that whoever comes through the gate shalll select the kign. An idiot goes through the gate and he proceeds to crown a melon as the new king.
