Characteristic features of Alpine forests:

  • The Alpine forests grow in high altitudes and are used to harsh conditions of the higher latitudes.
  • They have well-developed roots that store carbohydrates through the winter months which are used during the springtime for developing new shoots.
  • The Alpine forest can weather low temperatures through a process of freezing point depression or through super cooling methods where the amount of solutes increases in the tissue of the plants to avoid exposure to low temperatures.
  • The plants in the Alpine forests multiply through both sexual and asexual reproduction.
