Characteristics. Sandy soil is not fit for vegetation as it does not retain water. Loam soils generally contain more nutrients, moisture, and humus than sandy soils, have better drainage and infiltration of water and air than silt and clay-rich soils, and are easier to till than clay soils.Soil with a large amount of clay is sometimes hard to work with, due to some of clay's characteristics.
