Answer:

Hen and other birds lay eggs on land in their nests. So they are covered by a thick shell for protection from dehydration and predators. They get warmth from the hen and hatch after a few days of incubation. Newly born chicks are taken care of by the different cultures mother hen. Eggs are laid in singles, a hen may lay about 300 eggs in a year. Hen eggs are either white or brown in colour.

Fish eggs are laid in large numbers in the water. They do not get dehydrated as they are already in water. So they are only covered by a thick jelly and not a shell. They are sometimes cared by the parent fish, but mostly left on their own in the seas(rivers, etc). When the fingerlings come out, they can swim and fend for themselves. Many die during the process of growing hence fish lay large number of eggs. Fish eggs are of many colours to match the background and to camouflage them.
