Non Metal.

(1) Non metal such as phosphorus and sulfur are insulators.

The difference between the physical properties of metals and non - metals are -

Metals:-

• Metals are Good conductors of heat and electricity. Electricity flows through them easily . ex - Copper, aliminium , silver etc

• Metals are lusturous. They have a good shiny appearance. ex - gold , silver , stainless steel etc

• Metals are sonourous . They produce ringing sound when being strike with a hammer .ex - iron .

• Metals are strong . They have high durability they are long-lasting.

• Metals have very high density ,they are heavy.

• Metals are melleable that is they can be bitten to form thin sheets. ex- gold , aluminium.

Non-Metals :-

• Non-metals not good conductors of heat and electricity. They are poor conductors, they donot allow electricity to pass through them. ex- Hydrogen, sulphur , Nitrogen etc. However exception is there carbon is a non-metals but carbon in the form of graphite is a good conductor of electricity.

• Non-metals are not lusturous , they have a dull appearance. ex - carbon, sulphur.

• Non-metals are not sonourous they donot produce ringing sound when being strike with a hammer .

• Non-metals are not strong they have very low durability.

• Non-metals have low density.

• Non-metals are not melleable they can't be bitten to form thin sheets they are brittle they broke into many pieces when they hammered .
