Examples of monocotyledons are palm trees, grasses, bananas and orchids. These plants have one cotyledon (leaf) when they are young. Dicotyledons, on the other hand, are flowering plants that have two cotyledons. Oak trees, peas, daisies, peanuts, lentils, roses and cacti are examples of dicotyledons. These two plant types are different from each other not just in the number of young leaves they have, but also in their pollen grains, flowers, seeds, leaves, stems and roots.
