Farmers use lime (calcium oxide) to neutralise acid soils. Your stomach contains hydrochloric acid, and too much of this causes indigestion. Antacid tablets contain bases such as magnesium hydroxide and magnesium carbonate to neutralise the extra acid. Bee stings are acidic.
