1. In transverse wave, the oscillation of the particles of the medium is perpendicular to the direction of propagation of wave. In longitudinal wave, oscillation is parallel to direction. 2. Transverse wave progresses as a series of crests and troughs. Longitudinal wave progresses as a series of compression and rarefaction. 3. Example of transverse wave is light wave, waves of water when a stone is thrown. Example of longitudinal wave is sound.
