The practical application of the reflection of sound are utilised in the working of devices such a megaphone, bulb horn stethoscope & sound board.

Megaphone and bulb horn:

These devices are designed to send sound in a particular direction without spreading all around.

A megaphone is a large cone shaped a funnel shaped device for amplifying and directing the voice of a person who speaks into it.

A Buib horn is a cone shaped wind instrument which is used for signalling in bicycles, cars, buses ,trucks ,boats e.t.c

Both the devices work on the multiple reflection of sound.

Stethoscope is a medical instrument used by doctors for listening to sounds produced within the human body mainly in the heart and the lungs.

Sound can get reflected a number of times before reaching us. The multiple of sound has a number of uses and consequences. Let us know how multiple reflection of sound is put to use by us.

1. In stethoscope, the sound of patient's heartbeat is guided along the tube of the stethoscope to the doctors ear by multiple reflections of sound.

2. Horns, musical instruments such as trumpets and sehnais, loudhailers (megaphones), loudspeakers, etc., are all design to keep sound from spreading in all directions. In these instruments, a tube followed by a conical opening reflects sound successively to guide most of the sound waves from the source in the forward direction, towards the audience. The sound waves add up and the loudness of sound increases.

3. Reflection of sound plays an important role in designing the concert halls.
